OID is jointly promulgated by three international standard organisations, namely ISO, IEC and ITU, and is followed by 208 countries and regions around the world. The National OID Registry was established in 2007 by the China National Institute of Electronic Technology Standardization (CNIET), an institution directly under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of the People’s Republic of China. It is responsible for the registration, resolution, management and filing with international organisations of the Chinese branch of the globally unique identifier OID 1.2.156 (ISO.member.china) and 2.16.156 (ISO-ITU.member.china). It is responsible for autonomously and controllably realising the communication between each application information system and other networks as well as the interconnection and intercommunication between heterogeneous information systems.
